I'm leaving Minato Ward, where I have lived for 16 years, to move back to Ichigaya where I was born after 37 years' absence.

EXHIBITION BY SAMANTHA

I stopped by at gallery "On the Hill" in Daikanyama for an exhibition by ceramic artist and popular blogger Ms. Misato Fukuoka a.k.a. Samantha. Her husband is Mr. Hidenori Fukuoka, my first mentor of copywriting at Dentsu.

陶芸家で人気ブロガーでもある福岡美里さんa.k.a. Samanthaさんの個展を見るため、代官山のギャラリー「オン・ザ・ヒル」へ。福岡さんのご主人は、電通での僕のコピーライティングの最初の師匠、福岡英典さん。

Her signature work “Happy Flower." Every flower has different shape and detail. They are now available at Michael Hennessy in Chelsea, NYC.

福岡さんの代表作「Happy Flower」。一つひとつが、違った形とディテールを持っている。現在、NYC・チェルシーのMichael Hennessyで展示、販売中。

THE LEADING HOTELS OF THE WORLD AFTERNOON TEA PARTY

I was invited to an afternoon tea party at Hotel Okura Tokyo hosted by The Leading Hotels of the World. Teas, scones, cakes, and sandwiches were prepared by member hotels around the world including Ritz Paris, Luna Hotel Baglioni, Hotel Sacher Wien, Halekulani, and of course, Okura Tokyo.

ザ・リーディングホテルズ・オブ・ザ・ワールドがホテルオークラ東京で開いたアフタヌーンティーパーティに招かれる。リッツ・パリ、ルナホテル・バリオーニ、ホテルザッハー・ウィーン、ハレクラニ、そしてもちろんオークラ東京といったメンバーホテルから、ティー、スコーン、ケーキ、サンドウィッチが集まった。

TRISH'S FAREWELL AT WKT

This is the place where you can see people who know how to party. I came back to my previous agency WKT for the first time in 10 months to attend the farewell party for Trish who is going back to PDX.

ここのパーティはやっぱり最高。ポートランドに戻るトリッシュのフェアウェルパーティに参加するため、10か月ぶりに古巣のWKTに戻る。

DINNER WITH YO

Yo, Fukuoka-born U.S. citizen and Creative Director/Art Director I worked with both at WKT and at Apple, will go back to the U.S. to start his new life in LA. So Team Apple got together for a farewell dinner. From left: Hiroshi, Yo, and Paul.

BACK IN HIYOSHI

For the first time in years, I was back in Keio University's Hiyoshi Campus to attend annual alumni reunion of Prof. Arisue's seminar at the Department of Political Science. Surprised to see a lot of shiny new facilities such as a building with restaurants and completely renovated athletic track field. They were built as a part of university's 150-year anniversary projects.

政治学科有末ゼミのOBOG会に出席するため、久しぶりに慶應義塾大学の日吉キャンパスへ。レストランの入ったビルや、完全に生まれ変わった陸上トラックなど、大学の150周年記念事業の一貫として造られたピカピカの最新施設にびっくり。

However, ginkgo trees along central street remain unchanged. Glad to see that.

とはいえ、中央道路の銀杏並木は変わらないのが嬉しい。

Did anybody imagine Hiyoshi campus would have a subway station under it in the late 80s? We had red USSR, instead of Green Line, at that time.

日吉キャンパスの下に地下鉄の駅ができるなんて、80年代後半に誰が想像しただろう。あの頃はグリーンラインではなく、真っ赤なソビエトがあった。

KOTOBUKIDO

Once you're done with shamo chicken pot, it's time for dessert. Here at Kotobukido, Japanese sweets shop founded in Meiji era and known as a landmark on Ningyo-cho, they serve a cup of tea in the proper manner even though you're buying just one piece of yokan cake. Take time to enjoy it, even though you are in a hurry. That's the true "iki" (sophistication) of Tokyoite.

軍鶏鍋を食べたら、次はデザートの時間。明治時代に創業し、人形町のランドマークとして知られる和菓子屋の壽堂では、たとえ羊羹を一個しか買わなくても、きちんと茶を出してくれる。急いでいる時でも、それをゆっくり楽しむのが真の東京人の「粋」。

TASTE OF TOKYO WINTER

Winter has come in Tokyo. So it's time for shamo chicken pot in "real downtown." Tamahide since 1760. Almost the same generation as Caffé Florian.

東京に冬が来た。だから「本当のダウンタウン」で軍鶏鍋を。「玉ひで」は創業1760年。カフェ・フローリアンとほぼ同世代。

DINNER WITH TRISH AND JOE

Trish, Managing Director of my previous agency WKT, is leaving Tokyo to start her new adventure at world's leading creative engine WK Portland. So Kaoru and I planned authentic Japanese send-off at Akasaka Kikunoi inviting her and her husband Joe. We all enjoyed wonderful hospitality Mr. Murata, the owner and master chef of Kikunoi, gave us. He even escorted us to the entrance of his property on a long corridor covered by bamboo trees when we were leaving.

僕の前の会社、WKTのマネージングディレクターであるトリッシュが東京を離れ、世界最高のクリエーティブエンジンの一つ、WKポートランドへ移籍する。そこで僕とカオルは、彼女と彼女の夫であるジョーを、赤坂菊乃井でのオーセンティックな和の送別ディナーに招いた。僕たちは菊乃井の主人で料理長である村田氏直々のおもてなしを満喫。氏は僕たちが店を出る際も、竹で覆われた長いアプローチを門までずっとエスコートして見送ってくれた。

DINNER WITH HASSIE AND TAKAKO

Dinner with Hassie and Takako to celebrate their wedding at Michelin-starred "China Blue" of Conrad Tokyo. Hassie is a globe-trotting photographer and Takako is my ex-colleague at WKT.

ミシュランの星を得たコンラッド東京の「チャイナブルー」で、ハッシーとタカコの結婚お祝いディナー。ハッシーは世界を飛び回るフォトグラファー。タカコは僕のWKTでの元同僚。

TATESHINA JUKU

Tateshina Juku (school) is an open forum where people talk and think about "twin-hub lifestyle" which connects Tokyo and Tateshina Highland in Nagano Prefecture. We saw a lot of interesting attendees including architect, author, artist, interior designer, gardener, and people from wide range of industries such as real estate, finance, and technology. The organizer Mr. Toshio Yabe from Mori Building is making an opening presentation introducing pleasure of life in Tateshina. He is my ex-client and my geek-mate who shares a passion for aviation with me.

蓼科塾は東京と長野県の蓼科高原を結んだ「2拠点生活」を語り、考えるオープンフォーラム。建築家、作家、アーティスト、インテリアデザイナー、ガーデナー、そして不動産、金融、テクノロジーといった様々な業界から集まった人々。興味深い出席者が集まった。オーガナイザーである森ビルの矢部俊男さんが、オープニングプレゼンテーションとして蓼科暮らしの楽しさを披露。矢部さんは僕の元クライアントであり、航空へのパッションを共有するギークメイト。

Architect Mr. Masataka Baba who leads Real Tokyo Estate and Open A, and Ms. Maha Harada, an author of the novel "Tsubasa wo kudasai ~ Freedom in the sky", are on stage and talk about possibilities of "twin-hub lifestyle" for creative people. Mr. Baba is also known as a person who is introducing fascinating "twin-hub" living in Boso area.

東京R不動産とOpen Aを運営・主催する建築家の馬場正尊さんと、小説「翼をください~ Freedom in the sky」を書いた作家である原田マハさんがステージに登場して、クリエーティブな人々のための「2拠点生活」の可能性を語る。馬場さんは房総での魅力的な2拠点ライフを紹介していることでも知られる方。

DIESEL SHIBUYA OPENING

Stopped by opening reception of the newest Diesel shop in Shibuya. Kimi, who is my ex-colleague at WKT and now working as an independent curator both in Tokyo and in Shanghai, curated gallery space in the basement. Amazingly huge crowd was there. Congratulations, Kimi! With another ex-WKT graduate Anthony from Naked Tokyo.

渋谷にできた一番新しいDieselのショップのオープニングレセプションに立ち寄る。地下のギャラリースペースのキュレーションを担当したのは、WKT時代の元同僚で、今はインディペンデントキュレーターとして東京と上海の2都市で活躍するキミ。もの凄い数の人が集まっていた。おめでとう、キミ。こちらもWKTの元同僚であるNaked Tokyoのアンソニーと。

GOODBYE, PACIFIC

Once Le Meridien, now billboard ad for Keikyu Haneda access train. I liked their spacious coffee lounge. Another Tokyo's landmark with some memories of mine disappeared.

かつてはル・メリディアン。今は京急羽田アクセス線のビルボード。広々としたコーヒーラウンジが好きだったのだが。思い出のある東京のランドマークがまた一つ消えた。

MY FIRST BLACK BIRD

First time to fly on Starflyer's black bird. This flight has ANA flight number. I don't enjoy LCC. But I didn't have any other options that meet my schedule. Starflyer A320 KIX-HND. The 510th flight in my lifetime.

スターフライヤーのブラックバードに初搭乗。この便はANAの便名をつけている。LCCは好きじゃない。でも、スケジュール的に他の選択肢がなかった。スターフライヤー A320 KIX-HND。生涯510フライト目。

BOEING SIGNATURE INTERIOR

Flying back to Kansai on this Dash 400 with Boeing Signature Interior livery. This plane is one of four newest Dash 400s for China Airlines and one of the last four passenger Dash 400s built. And only this particular plane is wearing Boeing/China hybrid color. Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian sometimes uses this ship. Behind her, China's A340 with 50 years anniversary logo is taking off.

ボーイングシグネチャーインテリアのカラースキームをまとったこのダッシュ400で関空へ戻る。この機を含む、チャイナエアラインで一番新しい4機のダッシュ400は、旅客用として最後に作られたダッシュ400でもある。そしてこの一機だけがボーイングとチャイナのハイブリッドカラー。台湾の陳水扁総統も時折このシップで飛ぶ。後ろでは、チャイナの50周年記念ロゴをつけたA340がテイクオフ。

They say "signature", but seats are not that special.
