FIUMICINO CONNECTION

Arrived at Fiumicino and found A320 I was flying with was named after Italian poet Vincenzo Monti.

フィウミチーノに到着。そこで初めて、乗ってきたA320にイタリアの詩人、ヴィンセンツォ・モンティの名が付けられていたことに気づく。

Maybe FCO is one of the worst airports for international connection. It's like a Japanese old hot spring inn which has kept adding annexes over years. Once you deplane, you turn left, and right, then keep walking for a while turning some more corners. Then you go through passport control. After that, you repeat the same thing again except passport control, then finally reach the gate of a shuttle to the terminal for your flight, not the gate of your flight. Sigh.

国際線接続という意味では、フィウミチーノは最悪の空港の一つかもしれない。まるで増築を繰り返して来た日本の古い温泉旅館のよう。降機すると、まず左へ行き、右へ行き、さらに幾度か角を曲がりながらしばらく歩く。やがてパスポートコントロールを通過する。それからまたパスポートコントロール以外のすべてを繰り返し、ようやくたどり着くのはフライトのゲートではなく、フライトのゲートがあるターミナルへのシャトルのゲート。やれやれ。

Middle Ages. Modernisme. Ricardo Bofill. Magnificent avenues. Fun backstreets. Great foods. And the beach. They even have an aerial tramway. What else does a city need?

BARCELONA MODERNISME WALK : PASSEIG DE GRÀCIA

Wandering around Passeig de Gràcia enjoying modernisme architectures on both sides of the avenue. This is Casa Lleó Morera by Lluís Doménech i Montaner, who was the architect for Palau Música Catalana, Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau and Casa Fuster.

道の両側に建つモデルニスモ建築を楽しみながら、グラシア大通りをぶらぶら。これはカタルーニャ音楽堂、サン・パウ病院、カサ・フステルの建築家でもあるリュイス・ドメネク・イ・ムンタネーによるカサ・レェオ・モレラ。

Originally this was a residence for a chocolatier. Casa Amatller by Josep Puig i Cadafalch.

もともとはショコラティエのための住宅だった、ジョセップ・プッチ・イ・カダファルクによるカサ・アマトリェール。

Casa Batlló.

カサ・バトリョ。

And Casa Milà. Of course, both are works of Antoni Gaudí i Cornet.

そして、カサ・ミラ。もちろん、ともにアントニ・ガウディ・イ・コルネの作品。

Then coming back to my "casa" in Barcelona, Casa Fuster.

で、僕のバルセロナでの「カサ」、カサ・フステルに戻ってくる。

BARCELONA MODERNISME WALK : PALAU MÚSICA CATALANA

The music played in such visual beauty is so blessed. Lluís Doménech i Montaner, who designed Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau and Casa Fuster, also created this stunning music hall. Here you are in "the temple of expression".

このような視覚的な美の中で演奏される音楽は幸せだ。サン・パウ病院やカサ・フステルの建築家でもあるリュイス・ドメネク・イ・ムンタネーが設計した驚くべき音楽堂。まさに「表現の神殿」。

Maybe this is the most beautiful hospital in the world. Designed by Lluís Doménech i Montaner who also designed Casa Fuster, the hotel I'm staying at.

もしかしたら世界で最も美しい病院かもしれない。僕が滞在しているホテル、カサ・フステル同様、リュイス・ドメネク・イ・ムンタネーによる建築。
